About Me

I am Tao Yang, a master’s student in Bioinformatics at Tongji University, Shanghai, China. I work in the Zhang Lab, School of Life Sciences and Technology, under the joint supervision of Prof. Menghuan Zhang and Prof. Yong Zhang. I received my B.S. degree in Computer Science and Technology from Shanghai Ocean University in 2024.

My research focuses on computational biology, with an emphasis on functional phosphorylation site prediction, protein localization, and transcription factor regulation. I am particularly interested in developing machine learning methods that integrate protein sequence, structural, and multi-omics information to study how post-translational modifications contribute to biological regulation.

Research Summary

I am currently developing PhosLoc Transport, a computational framework for predicting phosphorylation sites associated with transcription factor nuclear-cytoplasmic localization regulation.

The project focuses on two related questions: whether a transcription factor phosphosite is likely to be involved in localization regulation, and whether the site is more likely to be associated with nuclear accumulation or cytoplasmic redistribution. The framework combines protein language model representations, structure-derived features, supervised learning, and cancer multi-omics analysis to connect phosphosite-level predictions with downstream regulatory effects.

Background

My undergraduate training in Computer Science provided a foundation in programming, algorithm design, and machine learning. In my current research, I aim to apply these computational skills to biological questions involving protein regulation, post-translational modifications, and disease-related molecular mechanisms.
